  • Design and Technology

At St. Marys, our Design and Technology (D&T) curriculum is designed to inspire pupils to become creative, practical problem-solvers who can design, make, and evaluate products for a range of real-world contexts. To deliver a rigorous and engaging D&T education, we follow a knowledge-rich Curriculum. This framework is carefully structured to build technical knowledge and practical skills systematically from Early Years through to Year 6, ensuring pupils gain a deep understanding of materials, mechanics, structures, textiles, and electronics.

Through this approach, pupils learn that design is a purposeful process driven by human needs. In every unit, children engage in the full iterative design process: investigating existing products, developing user-centred design briefs, selecting and working safely with tools and materials, and critically evaluating their finished creations. Alongside practical making, pupils build essential vocabulary and explore the historical and modern significance of design innovations, empowering them to think critically about how technology and design shape the world around us.
