At St. Marys, our French curriculum is designed to foster a love for languages, spark curiosity about other cultures, and lay strong foundations for future language learning. To deliver an engaging and structured modern foreign languages (MFL) education, we use the Language Angels scheme of work. Designed specifically for primary schools, Language Angels ensures phonics, vocabulary, and grammar are taught in a clear, progressive manner from Key Stage 1 through to Key Stage 2.
Through interactive, lively lessons, pupils develop their communication skills across all four key areas of language learning: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Children build confidence by participating in conversational games, singing songs, and exploring authentic French culture and geography. By revisiting core linguistic structures and systematically expanding their vocabulary year upon year, our pupils learn to express themselves creatively in French and develop a positive, open-minded attitude toward the wider world.
