PSHE

At St. Marys, our Personal, Social, Health, and Economic (PSHE) education is designed to support the holistic development of every child, nurturing their emotional literacy, resilience, and personal well-being alongside their academic growth. To deliver a comprehensive and spiral PSHE curriculum, we follow the nationally recognised Jigsaw scheme of work. Jigsaw brings together PSHE education, emotional literacy, social skills, and spiritual development in a structured, age-appropriate framework that adapts seamlessly as pupils progress from Early Years through to Key Stage 2.

The Jigsaw curriculum is structured around six distinct half-termly themes—termed ‘Puzzles’—which are taught sequentially across the whole school: Being Me in My World, Celebrating Difference, Dreams and Goals, Healthy Me, Relationships, and Changing Me. Each weekly lesson incorporates mindfulness and calm-me time, encouraging pupils to build self-awareness, regulate their emotions, and develop strong interpersonal skills. Through open discussion and guided activities, our pupils learn how to value diversity, maintain physical and mental well-being, build safe and healthy relationships, and grow into confident, empathetic, and responsible members of society.
